Mohammad Hasif Afiq, the first Malaysian in Apple Developer Recognition
The Grab senior software engineer is listed alongside 49 other developers from around the world. Here is his journey, from big local apps to Bantu App and Hidayah App.

In May, Mohammad Hasif Afiq made history as the first Malaysian listed in Apple Developer Recognition, Apple's list of app developers recognised for their impact on their communities. VOCKET reported the achievement on 15 May 2026, citing a report by Amanz.
Hasif's profile appears on Apple's Developer Recognition page alongside 49 other developers from around the world.
"I thought Apple had sent the email by mistake"
In a LinkedIn post, Hasif said that at first he could hardly believe it, and even thought Apple had sent him the email by mistake. He sees the recognition as proof that years of effort, every line of code, every system problem solved and every user helped, were not in vain.
Behind the apps we use every day
Hasif is now a Senior Software Engineer at Grab. According to the report, he has worked on several apps that many Malaysians use every day:
| App | Category |
|---|---|
| Grab | E-hailing and delivery |
| GXBank | Digital bank |
| Boost | E-wallet |
| JobStreet | Job search |
Technology for the community
Outside work, Hasif builds apps to help the public:
- Bantu App, built during the pandemic around the viral #KitaJagaKita initiative, to help people who were struggling to find aid.
- Hidayah App, an Islamic app with prayer times, a qibla compass, a collection of duas, a digital tasbih and Quran reading.
Supporting local iOS developers
Hasif is also one of the people behind Swiftlah!, a community of iOS app developers in Malaysia. For young developers who want to get into iOS, a community like this is a good place to start: learn from people who have already walked the same path.
