After Budget 2027 was tabled on Friday, 9 October, "STR 2027" shot up among the top Google searches in Malaysia. Many people want to know one thing: how much they will get next year. Here is what has been announced so far.

Allocation rises to RM16 billion

The combined allocation for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) is raised to RM16 billion for 2027, from RM15 billion this year. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced it while tabling the budget.

If you receive STR

All STR recipients will get SARA aid of up to RM150 a month, or RM1,800 a year. The government says this will benefit up to nine million STR recipients.

If you do not receive STR

Malaysians aged 18 and above who do not receive STR will get RM100 in SARA aid twice in 2027:

  1. Before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
  2. Ahead of the 70th independence anniversary celebrations.

The Star reported that the measure is expected to benefit up to 13 million people, including the M40 group.

Where you can spend SARA

  • From 2027, SARA can be used to buy wet and fresh produce at 216 farmers' markets and tamu under FAMA (the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority).
  • The SARA merchant network now covers 15,000 premises, including 6,800 small grocery shops and cooperatives. The government aims to have 10,000 small grocery shops in the programme by the end of the year.
  • Separately, the allocation for Jualan Rahmah Madani and Jualan Agro Madani is raised to RM750 million, with 5,000 Agro Madani sales offering fresh farm produce at prices up to 30 per cent lower.

What we don't know yet

The reports we checked do not give application or payment dates for STR 2027. We have not been able to verify social media posts claiming that applications are already open. Wait for an official announcement on the STR portal run by LHDN (the Inland Revenue Board) at bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my, and avoid application links shared on WhatsApp or in private messages.

Budget 2027 still has to be debated and passed in the Dewan Rakyat. For a summary of the other measures in this budget, see Budget 2027, what changes for your wallet.
