Anthropic opened Claude Marketplace on 23 September, one place to find more than 2,000 plugins and connectors for Claude, along with Claude-powered products and consulting partners. Two days later, on 25 September, it opened a developer portal where anyone on a paid Claude plan can submit a plugin, including one made of Agent Skills, for listing in the Claude directory.

For Malaysian software companies, freelancers and in-house developers, this is a direct way to put a product's workflows inside Claude without joining a partner programme first. For users, it means more third-party skills inside Claude, and more to check before installing.

What Claude Marketplace is

Anthropic's announcement describes three sections:

  • Connectors and plugins, to add tools to Claude. Named partners include Atlassian, Google, Microsoft, Notion and Salesforce.
  • Agents and products, Claude-powered software from companies such as CrowdStrike, Harvey and Snowflake. Customers can put part of their committed Anthropic spend towards these.
  • Service partners, consulting firms such as Accenture, Boston Consulting Group and Deloitte that help organisations roll out Claude.

Anthropic says builders can create a connector or plugin using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent Skills. The announcement doesn't say which plans can install which listings.

Where skills fit

According to Anthropic's developer docs, a plugin is a package people add once and then use on claude.ai, in the desktop and mobile apps, in Cowork and in Claude Code. It can contain:

  • Skills, SKILL.md folders that teach Claude a workflow, its steps and what good output looks like
  • An MCP connector, when Claude needs to reach your product or data
  • An MCP App, for interactive UI inside the chat
  • Commands and agents, and in Claude Code also hooks and language servers

One detail matters for skill authors. The docs say skills are not a submission type on their own. To list a skill in the directory, you put it in a plugin bundle.

How to submit

According to Anthropic's docs:

  1. Use a claude.ai account on a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan. Free accounts can't submit. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner submits, and Enterprise Owners can give other members a Directory permission.
  2. Open the developer portal at claude.ai/directory/manage and choose Submit new.
  3. Pick Plugin bundle (skills, commands, agents, hooks and MCP server references, from a GitHub repository) or MCP connector (the URL of a remote MCP server).
  4. Go through the pre-submission checklist and submit.

The GitHub repository must be public before the listing goes live. The first organisation to submit a given repository folder holds that listing, so submit from the account that should own it long term. If you run the remote MCP server your plugin uses, Anthropic asks you to submit the server separately as a connector too.

What review involves

Every plugin version gets automated validation and a security scan, and a person reviews each new listing before it goes live. Anthropic says review time isn't fixed, and the portal shows each submission's status. Once approved, you choose when to publish. Later versions don't need a new submission: the directory picks up each commit on the tracked branch, scans it and then serves it to users.

After launch, the portal shows installs by product and version, how often each skill and MCP server runs, error rates, and which searches lead people to the listing.

Anthropic's blog post said one discovery experience across Claude and Claude Code would roll out in the following weeks. Plugins, skills and connectors already in the directory need no changes. The older submission form in the Claude Console is no longer supported, so earlier submissions have to move to the new portal.

For users

A directory listing has passed Anthropic's checks, but that is not a guarantee. Anthropic's own plugin repository for Claude Code tells users to make sure they trust a plugin before installing it, because Anthropic "does not control what MCP servers, files, or other software are included in plugins". Skills inside a plugin can run code, so read what a plugin contains before you add it.
