Skills are one of the simplest ways to make Claude follow your way of working, and GitHub is now full of them. Some come from Anthropic, some from companies such as Google and Vercel, and many from individual developers. Below are the repositories worth knowing, with star counts we checked on 13 October 2026 and how to install them.

One rule first: a skill can contain scripts that run on your computer. Read a repository before you install from it. Our checklist covers what to look for.

Start with the official ones

anthropics/skills (180,768 stars). Anthropic's own collection has 19 skills, from pdf, docx, xlsx and pptx to frontend-design, mcp-builder and skill-creator, plus the Agent Skills specification and a template for your own. According to the README, many are Apache 2.0, while the four document skills are source-available rather than open source. Recent changes include a revised frontend-design skill in early September, meant to make generated interfaces look less templated, and claude-api skill updates for Claude Opus 5.5 (29 September) and Claude Haiku 5.5 (9 October).

/plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills
/plugin install document-skills@anthropic-agent-skills

anthropics/claude-plugins-official (37,760 stars). Anthropic's curated plugin directory for Claude Code. Its marketplace file listed 315 plugins on 13 October, from Anthropic and from third parties. Install any of them with /plugin install <name>@claude-plugins-official. The README itself warns that Anthropic cannot verify what third-party plugins contain.

Workflow packs for developers

obra/superpowers (298,281 stars). Jesse Vincent's framework walks the agent through brainstorming, planning, test-driven development and code review. Version 7.0 came out on 10 October. See our story on 7.0.

addyosmani/agent-skills (105,732 stars). Addy Osmani's pack has 25 skills and nine slash commands, including /spec, /plan, /build, /test, /review and /ship, that take a project from idea to release.

Skills for specific tools and fields

kepano/obsidian-skills (49,471 stars). From Steph Ango of Obsidian, these teach an agent to use Obsidian Markdown, Bases, JSON Canvas and the Obsidian CLI. Handy if you keep notes, or a blog, in an Obsidian vault.

K-Dense-AI/scientific-agent-skills (48,598 stars). According to its README, 177 skills for research work in biology, chemistry, medicine, physics, engineering and data analysis. Worth a look for postgraduate students and researchers.

google/skills (21,224 stars). Google's skills for its own products, including Google Cloud, covering tasks such as authentication, onboarding and deploying AI agents.

Finding more

vercel-labs/skills (34,060 stars) is the npx skills command-line tool. It installs skills from any Git repository into Claude Code and, according to its README, 78 other agents. Its directory site is skills.sh. To see what a repository contains before installing anything:

npx skills add google/skills --list

Curated lists such as ComposioHQ/awesome-claude-skills (76,963 stars) and VoltAgent/awesome-agent-skills (35,599 stars, which says it collects more than 1,000 skills) are good for browsing. They link to other people's code, though, and being on a list doesn't mean anyone has checked it.

Not only for Claude

The Agent Skills format was developed by Anthropic and released as an open standard, now documented at agentskills.io. On 13 October, the site's showcase listed 46 products that support it, including ChatGPT and Codex, GitHub Copilot, VS Code, Cursor and Gemini CLI. The site says a skill built once can be used across any skills-compatible agent.
