The New Muslims Community (NMC) Conference 2026 was scheduled for 13 September 2026 at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, from 8am to 6pm. Sinar Daily reported these details in an article published on 3 September, before the conference took place.

What was on the agenda

According to the report, the conference would bring together community leaders, professionals, speakers and members of the public. They would discuss race, religion, the economy, social division, digital culture and the work of building a Malaysia that belongs to everyone.

The organisers described the conference as part of a national effort to help Malaysians "trust one another again". New Muslims were placed at the centre of the conversation, because their lived experience cuts across different racial and cultural backgrounds.

Unlike a typical conference, every panel would be followed by an OpenMic session. Participants could ask questions, share their experiences and disagree respectfully.

The four main panels

Panel Focus
The Digital Battlefield Social media, manufactured fear and the use of race issues to mobilise people online
What's Your "Type"? Poverty, stereotypes and how race shapes perceptions of money, opportunity and merit
The Neighbourhood Without Neighbours Increasingly segregated living patterns and their effect on future generations
Living Between Two Worlds The experiences of new Muslims and their role as bridges between races and cultures

Speakers and background

Speakers listed include Datuk Dr Sheikh Hussain Yee, Datuk Kamarudin Abdullah, Firdaus Wong, Prof Dr Ahmed Razman Abdul Latiff, Amin Idris, Sheahnee Lee and Datuk Nelson Fernandez, along with other speakers from professional and community backgrounds.

The conference followed two earlier NMC roadshows, in Johor Bahru on 4 July and in Perak on 1 August. Those roadshows looked at how fear, economic hardship and racial narratives can deepen social divisions.

The programme also included lunch, prayer breaks, refreshments and networking sessions. Tickets were sold through nmcconference.org, which is also where the organisers post their latest information.
