Cooperation talks between PAS and Barisan Nasional (BN) for the Melaka state election are at the final stage, PAS central committee member Tan Sri Annuar Musa said, The Star reported on Tuesday, 13 October 2026. He gave no further details.

On the BN side, UMNO secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said seat talks were 90% complete, with only 10% left, Malay Mail reported the same day.

Agreed in principle

On Saturday, 10 October, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said PAS and BN had reached an agreement in principle to work together in the Melaka election. Seat allocation is not settled, and the list of candidates will go to the PAS Syura Council for approval, The Star reported. Hadi said the cooperation had to take into account conditions in Melaka, Johor and Negeri Sembilan.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) wants to contest more than four Melaka seats, depending on talks with UMNO.

The logo question

Early in October, Hadi said PAS was still open to a pact with BN and ready to contest under its own logo, Malay Mail reported. The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has suspended all PN activities since 23 September. On 13 October the High Court allowed PN to challenge the suspension, but the suspension stays in force for now. PN's application to stay it will be heard on 22 October.

What's next

Nomination is on 31 October, early voting on 10 November and polling on 14 November.
