MIC to campaign across Melaka despite contesting one seat
MIC will campaign throughout Melaka for BN in the 14 November election even though it is contesting only one seat, president Vigneswaran says.

MIC will campaign across Melaka to help Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14 November state election, even though it is contesting only one seat, NST reported on Monday, 12 October 2026.
MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran said the party would put its machinery to work statewide and try to win Indian votes for BN.
The Gadek seat
MIC's only seat in the Melaka assembly is Gadek. In the 2021 election, MIC's VP Shanmugam won it on the BN ticket in a six-way fight by a majority of 559 votes, FMT reported. In August, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M Saravanan said the party would defend Gadek and might contest more seats, depending on candidate strength and winning chances.
Lessons from Negeri Sembilan
Vigneswaran said MIC won nearly 49% of the Indian vote in the Negeri Sembilan election, even though it lost both seats it contested there. BN currently governs Melaka.
What's next
Nomination is on 31 October, early voting on 10 November and polling on 14 November.
