Ustaz Khalid Basalamah is an Indonesian preacher who shares his lectures on the YouTube channel Khalid Basalamah Official. Between Monday, 5 October and Monday, 12 October 2026, the channel posted four short vlogs from his talks, a promotional video and three short clips. This week's themes were patience and gratitude under trial through the story of Prophet Ayyub (Job), honesty in buying and selling, halal wealth for entrepreneurs, and a reminder about death.

Prophet Ayyub's story, patience and gratitude under trial

This session of the Kajian Serial Nabi series on the prophets was held on Saturday, 10 October 2026, at 12.30pm Western Indonesian Time (WIB), or 1.30pm in Malaysia, at Masjid Nurul Iman, Blok M Square, South Jakarta. Watch the vlog of this lecture.

  • He described Prophet Ayyub as the prophet whose name always comes up whenever people talk about calamity. In his view, the best way to face a calamity is patience, combined with gratitude.
  • In a clip from the lecture, he said Allah made the hearts of the people of Paradise like the heart of Ayyub, then asked how one man could reach that level. His answer was that Ayyub combined patience and gratitude at the same time.
  • The promotional video for the lecture introduces Ayyub as a descendant of Prophet Yaakub (Jacob) who was praised by Allah for his patience. It says patience is a provision for life, and that at the end of patience Allah opens a way out beyond what people expect.
  • The official video description says the story of Ayyub, who was tested severely over a long period, is a lesson for every Muslim to stay patient and grateful and not to give up easily. He also prayed that Allah would make it easy for everyone to apply the lessons in daily life.
  • According to the promotional video, the full recording will be uploaded to Khalid Basalamah Official after editing.

The sin of cheating and manipulation in trade

The 224th part of his regular series on major sins (Dosa-Dosa Besar), under the heading of sins against fellow people, was held on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, at 6.30pm WIB at Masjid Nurul Iman, Blok M Square. Watch the vlog of this lecture.

  • He explained that manipulation takes many forms, from falsifying office data and receipts to cheating in sales.
  • According to the official description, he urged honesty in earning a living: do not manipulate prices, do not lie to buyers and do not short-change customers on weights.
  • Wealth gained through haram means, he said, carries a severe warning in the hereafter, so every Muslim should make sure their income comes from halal sources.
  • In a clip from the lecture, he told traders not to worry. Allah has ways of bringing in sustenance from the goods they sell as long as they are honest, because the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said Allah puts blessing into such a transaction.

Deen & Deal, religion as the foundation of business

Earlier the same day, at 3.30pm WIB, he spoke at Deen & Deal at Samisara Grand Ballroom, Mega Kuningan Barat, South Jakarta. He said the event brought together Muslim entrepreneurs from across Indonesia, with several mentors and motivational speakers invited to share their experience and tips. Watch the vlog of this talk.

  • According to the official description, he reminded the audience that religion must be the main foundation of doing business.
  • Wealth, he said, is not blameworthy as long as it is earned in a halal way and used for good. Every Muslim should mind where their money comes from, because they will be held to account for it.
  • He encouraged Muslim entrepreneurs to keep growing their businesses without stepping outside the bounds of Islamic law, since halal and blessed wealth lets a person help others and benefit the wider community.
  • In a clip from the talk, he said friendships, including those with business partners, only last when people understand that money is part of the relationship. Someone who always expects to be treated but never treats others, he said, will soon be left by their friends.

The day we return to Allah, a reminder about death

The vlog of this public lecture (tabligh akbar) was uploaded on Monday, 5 October 2026. The lecture itself took place the day before, Sunday, 4 October, at 12.30pm WIB, during RLA Fest at the International Islamic Boarding School Rahmatan Lil Alamin (RLA) in Solok, West Sumatra. Watch the vlog of this lecture.

  • He said talking about death is not meant to frighten people but to open their eyes, broaden their outlook and settle in their hearts that everyone will return to Allah.
  • The lecture ran for about two and a half hours. He said he covered about 95 per cent of his material and had to skip some of the evidence (dalil) for lack of time.
  • He told the audience not to worry about death as long as they are Muslim, all the more so if they hold to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad.
  • He took issue with people who hold only to the second half of the definition of a sunnah act, "no sin if it is left", and so skip the voluntary Monday and Thursday fasts. They forget the first half, he said, which is that doing it earns a reward.

Three short clips this week

These clips are taken from his lectures. Their descriptions do not say when or where the original lectures were given.

The difference between a teacher and an educator

Uploaded on Tuesday, 6 October 2026. Watch the clip.

  • He said there are two kinds of people who teach. A teacher (pengajar) comes, teaches and does not care whether people understand as long as he is paid. An educator (pendidik) will not leave the place where he teaches until people understand, because he wants them to benefit.
  • The Prophet, he said, had an extraordinary educator's spirit and taught people so that they would change. Studying the Prophet's character, he said, shows that the good and guidance of others matter more than one's own ego and emotions. The video description quotes Surah Al-Ahzab, verse 21.

Why Prophet Yusuf chose prison

Uploaded on Thursday, 8 October 2026. Watch the clip.

  • He told how Zulaikha, to make a point to the women who mocked her for being infatuated with her adopted son, invited the wives of officials and ministers to her palace. They were served fruit with knives, and Yusuf (Joseph) was told to walk past them. Stunned by his looks, they cut their own hands without noticing. He cited the Prophet's saying that Yusuf was given half of the world's beauty.
  • Zulaikha, he said, followed her desires instead of seeking Allah's forgiveness, and threatened that Yusuf would be jailed if he refused her.
  • Yusuf prayed that prison was dearer to him than what they were calling him to. He added that the temptation no longer came from Zulaikha alone, since almost all the officials' wives were drawn to Yusuf. The video description quotes Surah Yusuf, verse 33, and concludes that staying away from sin sometimes takes sacrifice.

The people of Prophet Lut

Uploaded on Saturday, 10 October 2026. Watch the clip.

  • He explained the Qur'anic verses about Prophet Lut (Lot) and his people. According to him, scholars agree that same-sex relations were unknown before the people of Sodom, and the Qur'an calls the act a shameful deed.
  • When warned, he said, the people wanted to drive out Lut and his followers, accusing them of being "sok suci" (self-righteous).
  • He said scholars agree that the only followers of Lut who were saved were his two daughters, while his wife was not saved.
  • The video description quotes Surah Al-A'raf, verses 80 and 82, and says that what Allah forbids does not become permissible because many people do it or treat it as normal.

His main message this week

The advice that kept coming back this week was to hold on to what is halal and to bear its cost patiently. From the story of Ayyub, he urged that calamity be met with patience joined to gratitude, which in his account is what made Ayyub's heart like the hearts of the people of Paradise.

In his two sessions on Wednesday he gave traders and entrepreneurs the same message. Income must be earned honestly and from halal sources, everyone will be asked where their wealth came from, and honesty does not close the door to income, because in his view Allah blesses honest trade.

The descriptions of the clips on Yusuf and the people of Lut make a similar point from another angle: Yusuf chose prison over sin, and what is forbidden does not become permissible because many people do it. In Solok, he reminded the audience that everyone will return to Allah, and urged them to go after the reward of sunnah acts instead of leaning on the fact that leaving them is no sin.
