Wee Ka Siong says BN should bring back GST if it wins GE16
MCA president Wee Ka Siong says BN should reintroduce GST if it wins GE16, calling it a coalition priority under the Agenda Malaysia Biru.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said Barisan Nasional (BN) should reintroduce the goods and services tax (GST) if it wins the next general election, The Star reported on Thursday, 8 October 2026.
He made the call at the 12th BN Forum on Wednesday, 7 October.
Wee's case
Wee described bringing back GST as a BN priority under the Agenda Malaysia Biru, the policy direction discussed at the forum.
He said the e-invoicing system now being rolled out reflects GST features that are still used in the sales and services tax (SST). He also noted that more than 170 countries use a value-added tax (VAT) or GST system.
The BN government introduced GST in April 2015. It was scrapped in 2018 after Pakatan Harapan won GE14 and replaced with the SST.

A day later, Wee welcomed the rise in individual tax relief to RM12,000 in Budget 2027, but called it long overdue since the limit had not been revised since 2010, The Star reported.
