PKR will contest nine seats in the Melaka state election under Pakatan Harapan (PH), party secretary-general Datuk Fuziah Salleh said on Friday, 16 October 2026, Malay Mail and FMT reported.

The names of PKR's candidates, together with those from the other PH parties, will be announced by PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 24 October.

What Fuziah said

Fuziah, who is also deputy minister of domestic trade and cost of living, spoke to reporters in Johor Bahru after the launch of the Southern Zone International Franchise Exhibition tour.

"PKR has committed to nine seats as part of PH's efforts to mount a strong challenge in the Melaka polls," she said, as quoted by Malay Mail. Candidate selection is in its final stages and "more or less finalised", FMT reported.

She said PKR will contest only under PH because no formal political or electoral agreements have been made with other parties. Any strategy on cooperation with other parties is part of PKR's internal planning, she said, but the party welcomes support from any party that wants to help the coalition. FMT reported that she also said PH will contest more seats than PKR.

The announcement date

Anwar will announce PH's candidates at the launch of PH's election machinery in the car park of Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka on 24 October at 8pm.

That differs from the date given earlier. The Star, citing Bernama, reported on 11 October that the Prime Minister's political secretary, Datuk Azman Abidin, said PH would reveal its candidates on 18 October. The reports cited here do not say why the date changed.

The Melaka election timetable

The Melaka state assembly was dissolved on 23 September. The Election Commission has set:

  • 31 October: nomination day
  • 10 November: early voting
  • 14 November: polling day

In the 2021 election, Barisan Nasional won 21 of the 28 seats, PH five and Perikatan Nasional two. On 11 October, FMT reported that PH was expected to contest 18 to 21 seats, subject to approval by the PH presidential council.

What to watch

With PKR's nine seats confirmed, what remains is how the other PH parties split the rest. The full list on 24 October will show which seats go to which party, just a week before nominations.
